That Floating Feeling

The cold is plodding along. I'm feeling faded and blah but trying to keep up with all the things that need to be done before our next house guest arrives.

Yes, I do take lots of C etc... to try and beat these bugs. Sometimes it helps. Sometimes not.

I've actually been taking a cocktail of C, zinc, and D every day now because I had this epiphany that...

If I exercise and that makes me feel like I'm getting sick, but I improve with vitamins, then maybe I should take them every day and prevent the whole thing in the first place.

Duh.

So the vitamins work well against adrenal whatsits exercise colds, but not so much for actual bugs.

So far, it's mild. The toddler has lots of gunk though, I'm hoping it won't hit me.

On the writing front... I just have to get this out of my system...one of my colleagues has hit it big and is fielding offers from large publishing conglomerates with many multiples of six figures involved. It's so cool.

However, I have to say, if a writer can out-earn a traditional publishing offer with three months of sales on their own, do they really need a publisher? Something to think about... do publishers think writers can't do the math? I'm surprised at how low their offers are against what a writer is actually earning.

Not Procrastinating

I just slept like the dead for the last three hours. The toddler has the boogies of doom. You do the math.

So. Not great news.

The weakness has already started.

May it be a wimpy cold and pass quickly.

The timing is really horrible, but at least we already deep cleaned the entire basement in anticipation of our guest. That was the hardest part. The rest of it the hubby can mostly do without me if I'm too whacked to be helpful.

I've accomplished what I can with my writing goal. The first two projects came together so easily, but the third was a nightmare. It's not going to be publishable any time soon, ergo I counted having a really ugly rough draft as a win and am moving on. It'll need to sit for a while before I can edit it into anything worthy of publication. So now I publish the first two parts hopefully this coming week and start work on the next project.

Assuming this cold doesn't hinder me too much.

Now I Know

Thursday was a great day, except for the fact that I overdid it in the pool. Friday and Saturday I was in sad zombie shuffle mode with ever decreasing functionality.

By Saturday night, it became clear I had, in fact, caught the hubby's cold.

Which I kind of suspected. Being tired with increasing fatigue that erodes my ability to keep up with the basics of daily life is not normal even if I did over do it that one day. (And technically it's not so much that I over did it, it's that my body can't hack coming down with a cold and floating in a pool at the same time.)

It's a mild bug (I assume, based on the hubby's interaction with it) so I expect this will pass without too much drama.

Just to keep things interesting, however, my blood pressure is no longer controlled. Probably due to the licorice. Or being sick, I've had some zig-zags that make me think the adrenals are doing more than just making me tired. Either way, it needs attention.

I'm not stress dosing because I can sit on my ass all day today and don't have to be anywhere. I plan to do the same tomorrow. This cold should pass by then (I hope) and allow me to move on.

I am convinced that the key is going to be BHRT and if I can't stay off steroids, that won't happen.

If the asthma gets worse or the adrenal GI stuff starts up, it will change the game, but, for now, I'm trying to just hold on to the status quo.

Wish me luck, because, apparently, I don't have any.

Green Vomitus

One of the 'things' I'm supposed to be doing is using green powder. What is green powder? Basically every vegetable no sane child would ever eat, dried and ground into a fine silt.

It tastes like ass. One infected with C. Diff.

Most raw foodies mix it in with their veggie/fruit juice, using the sweetness of the fruit to mask the taste. Other folks dump this stuff into smoothies.

Since I am trying to limit sugar consumption, I mixed it in with my tea.

Which is a pretty terrible way to consume the stuff.

(How is the health benefit of this stuff affected by the level of sugar required to make it palatable? Inquiring minds wonder.)

So, lucky me, I started throwing it right back up the other day. My body had had enough ass thank-you-very-much. I tried to catch it in my hands and ended up sliming my face up to the eyebrow and leaving a spray pattern across the kitchen wall.

When I say it tastes like ass, I really mean it. I don't know that I've ever had such a strong reaction to a 'food'.

In fact, I would rather lick my dog's ass than ingest this stuff.

Instead I mixed it into yogurt and that was moderately better.

Of course, I still haven't stopped gagging when I eat actual vegetables now. This swamp mold is ruining real food even.

On the sick front, I wanted to go to the doctor today and get antibiotics, but now I feel guilty. What if I don't need them and instead contribute to the rise of flesh eating bacteria everywhere? I read a magazine article Sunday on how we're killing ourselves with antibiotics, and it was sufficiently scary enough that now I think I'll wait a few more days.

Maybe my miracle will come, right?

As for steroids, tried 5mg and nothing. I only got 4 hours of sleep, though, which did not help. 10mg got me moving finally, but it wasn't great. I hope this bug leaves me alone soon.

I'll do 5mg today and try to step down.

Going the Wrong Direction

My chest is mostly clear from this cold BUT now it's moved UP to my sinuses????? I thought bugs followed the laws of gravity? Sinuses first, chest second. Or have I caught a new one?

I think the CDC should hire me. I am clearly an expert bug catcher.

Today is much much worse. Mostly, I think, because I couldn't breathe last night, I was so clogged up. I probably had cold apnea.

I am so annoyed by this bug. I've been sick since last week!

Shoo! Go away.

Also, please cross your fingers that the toddler lets me rest. I am not going to be able to rise above so much today. I'm down for the count now. Send Mary Poppins STAT.

Totally Whining

We're all sick now and down to the last box of Kleenex. It's going to be a fight as to who gets soft tissue and who is stuck with the recycled eco-friendly toilet paper. Also, we are desperate to find that 3 year old tube of diaper ointment so we can coat our noses with it.

I went through a box of Kleenex myself in one day. This is one of those nuclear colds with ties to Al Qaeda. The mission is to terrorize noses of the West.

I did pass out some vitamins once I knew I was sick, so hopefully everyone else will miss out on the depths of misery that have been mine to plummet the last two days. I don't know if I can leave the toddler to go to the wedding if she gets as sick as this.

Why? Here's just a small sampling...

Will they know what to watch for with the asthma? And how to treat it? Will they wake up at night even or do they sleep like my husband? Can they deal with the hyperactivity from the meds?

I will spend the entire time worrying about her. That's what mother's do. Maybe I'll just send the hubby by himself to the wedding.

Also, I am taking 5mg because hello asthma and also, hey there, adrenals--although I managed to shut them out before they could make things worse. Aside from some heavy limbed-ness, energy was actually pretty good.

Still might have to go up to 10mg for the lungs, if not higher.

Added in Pulmicort too. Lungs are creaking anyways. That's what asthma does.

My nose is such a red hot ball of misery, sleep is tough. The sneezing and itching are constant. Totally worst cold ever.

I think...I think...*looks around furtively* I think I have a man cold. *runs for cover*

This can still turn around, right? It doesn't have to be the snot apocalypse, right? I might still get to wear a pretty dress, dance (slowly because, you know, the lungs), and sleep in a hotel with the full complement of cable channels, yes?

Doom

I have the boogies of doom.

And am feeling very petulant about it.

Sick sucks.

I just want to go back to bed, but my throat is so yuck I need to soak it in some hot tea first.

I found a dress to wear to the wedding on sale for $50. So that was a win. It looks pretty much like this one, but has a burgundy skirt.

Now if the boogies will make a swift exit so I can have a good time.
